Kaitlynn Redell
Kaitlynn Redell’s work focuses primarily on how the traditional craft of paper cutting can be manipulated to form new meaning. Composite scenes of new and historic imagery are cut from pre-existing, mass media print (magazine pages, posters, banners). The work is invested in the relationship between Eastern and Western cultures, specifically in regards to the West’s perception and visual realization of the East or Asian. Redell’s work investigates how these visuals have become so embedded in Western culture, that they now dictate a new set of truths.
